Students protest against the new rules introduced by the JNU administration on campus on Saturday. | Photo Credit: 10JNU1 Students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Saturday intensified their protest against the new rules introduced by the university administration and demanded an immediate roll back of the compulsory attendance as suggested by the administration. A large number of students gathered within the university premises to register their protest against the administration. Students also demanded a withdrawal of the circular which “threatens” to deny fellowships and debarring of students from examinations in cases of low attendance. Slams V-C “JNU Vice-Chancellor Jagadesh Kumar has been trying to destroy JNU through seat cuts, decimation of deprivation points and reservations, bid to delink MPhil-PhD and BA-MA, scrapping of GSCASH and now with the illegal imposition of compulsory attendance. He is trying to destroy the academic excellence of the university” said the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) in a statement. The JNUSU further, said that it condemned the fine and hostel transfer which had been issued to students who were protesting. The protest where the JNUSU had called for a “human chain” to be formed, also saw the participation of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers’ Association (JNUTA). On Friday, the students had organised a strike against the compulsory attendance which effectively brought the various schools to a complete lockdown.
