Vigilance courts convict two of bribery

CUTTACK: Special vigilance courts registered two convictions on a single day on Friday, both following trials in cases of bribery.A retired assistant block development officer (ABDO), Rabinarayan Sethi, was convicted by the vigilance court in Keonjhar and sentenced to undergo six months' rigorous imprisonment (RI) and pay a fine of Rs 5,000 in a bribery case registered in 2009.Sethi was ADBO at Champua in Keonjhar district when he was caught demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 8,000 to forward the utilization certificate for release of second phase of loan to a self-help group (SHG) under the Swarnajyoti Gram Swarozgar Yojana Scheme.A retired headmistress, Godabari Rath, was sentenced by the vigilance court in Balasore to undergo six months' RI in a bribe case registered in 2012.
