TIRUPUR: Taxi and travel vehicles owners on Tuesday submitted a petition to the south regional transport officer here urging the transport commissionerate to curb the menace of using own-board vehicles for commercial purposes."Hundreds of own-board vehicles are being utilised for commercial purposes in the district. Besides affecting revenue to be earned by the government, it was directly affecting the people who have obtained licences for operating vehicles for commercial purposes. People are also utilising good vehicles for carrying passengers," said M Mohammed Shaffiq, state deputy secretary, Tirupur Travels Taxi Drivers and Owners Association."Those illegal activities were affecting livelihood of the vehicle owners and drivers. Authorities should take concrete steps to stop it as tourism season has started," he added.
