Mayor inspects public utility centre

Mayor Malti Rai conducted a surprise inspection of the public utility center at Bittan Market on Saturday. Dissatisfied with the amenities, she levied a fine of Rs 5,000 on the company responsible for its upkeep. She directed the organization, Sulabh International, to ensure that all necessary repairs and improvements are made within a three-day period.The Mayor also visited street vendors at the market and initiated action against the use of proscribed single-use plastics. She encouraged the vendors to upgrade their packaging to safer and more environmentally friendly alternatives.Following her instructions, the municipal health department confiscated nearly 100 kg of banned plastic from the vendors and imposed spot fines amounting to Rs 11,900. They distributed cloth bags through volunteers and NSS cadets and renewed their appeal for making the state capital free of single-use plastics.Accompanying the Mayor were Additional Commissioner Devendra Singh Chouhan, Mayor Council Member R.K. Singh Baghel, Councillor Shikha Gohal, Health Officer Rajiv Saxena, and assistant health officers from zones 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10. As part of the ongoing Cleanliness is Service Fortnight - 2024, inspections were carried out by municipal officials at various locations. Civic amenities and public utilities were checked, and directions were issued for their upkeep.Sanitation drives were carried out across the city, and residents and others were counseled on ways to ensure better hygiene and cleanliness in their localities.
