Bhopal: Sunday witnessed the introduction of five new flights from Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj airport. However, the recent suspension of some existing flights connecting three cities has frequent flyers worried. Pune, Ahmedabad and Jaipur flights, which were started in the recent past, have been stopped.From Sunday, SpiceJet started operating five flights from Bhopal -- two flights to Delhi, and one each for Mumbai, Udaipur and Surat. At present, SpiceJet operates to Hyderabad and Bangalore via Shirdi. Air India, Jet Airways, IndiGo and SpiceJet are the airlines that operate from Bhopal.Discontinuing existing flights is not good, rued flyers. “Connecting Bhopal with Ahmedabad was very useful for people like me. I am from Bhopal, but staying in Ahmedabad. When the flight was operating, we could easily commute during some emergency in our family. Now, the flight has been stopped and it has become a big issue in reaching fast during an emergency,” said Neerja Mishra, a frequent flyer.Similar problem is being faced by those taking the Bhopal-Pune flight. Spice Jet had started a direct flight between Bhopal and Pune from March 25, but it was stopped from March 30. Anand Verma, a frequent flyer, said, “I was on cloud nine after the Bhopal-Pune flight was launched. I am facing problem after the flight was discontinued. I hope it will start soon.”Flyers are hoping that the Bhopal-Jaipur flight too will start again.Bhopal is now connected with Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Raipur, Jaipur, Surat, Shirdi, Bengaluru, and Udaipur.SpiceJet had started operations from Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj in January this year. The airline has deployed its Bombardier Q400 aircraft for all newly announced routes, which are specifically designed for business travellers to facilitate a same-day return journey.Last year, SpiceJet had announced Bhopal as its 50th domestic destination with the introduction of direct flights connecting MP's capital with Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Shirdi and Bengaluru via Shirdi. Earlier, Bhopal had direct flights only to Delhi and Mumbai. Later, Jaipur and Ahmedabad flights were discontinued.
