BHOPAL: Body of a woman lay unattended for about three hours as police stations in Anuppur and Shahdol districts of Madhya Pradesh dithered over jurisdiction to register a case. Later, a case of murder was registered at Chachai police station of Anuppur district Police suspects the deceased was raped and murdered. A case of murder has been registered against unidentified accused and cops are waiting autopsy reports are awaited.The deceased, 25 years of age has been identified to be a resident of Dhanpuri.The body was found near the river bank close to Bamhori village of Shahdol district . The spot where body was recovered lies on the border of Anuppur and Shahdol districts. Area that falls in Anuppur comes under Chachai police station and the area lying in Shahdol come under the jurisdiction of Dhanpuri police station.Sources said that the body of the girl clad in jeans and kurti with injury marks was seen by locals who informed the police. Since there was a confusion among the police over jurisdiction, the body remained unattended for nearly three hours.“A case has been registered at Chachai police station as the area came under their jurisdiction. Sometimes confusion occur in bordering areas. We have to ensure the jurisdiction because we cannot file chargesheet in court for areas which does not fall in our jurisdiction,” Dhanpuri police station in-charge, Sudesh Soni told TOI.“The deceased has been identified and it appears she has been murdered. A case of murder against unidentified accused has been registered and we are waiting for post-mortem report. If the report suggests sexual assault, then a case of rape would also be added and registered,” Chachai police station in-charge, Arvind Sahu told TOI.
