No Krishna Raj, no polls,’ hundreds of supporters of Union minister threaten to boycott polls

As the spark was missing throughout the rally, local party unit is now taking the matter seriously.” Shahjahanpur: Hundreds of supporters, especially women, of Union minister of state Krishna Raj gathered outside her house in Shahjahanpur city and peacefully protested against BJP for denying her ticket in the Lok Sabha polls.Shouting slogans like ‘Krishna Raj nahin to BJP ko vote nahin’ (no vote for BJP if Krishna Raj is not a candidate), the supporters said the two-term local MLA and sitting MP had been "wronged by the party".The minister’s husband, Virendra Raj, who was in Shahjahanpur on Friday, urged over 500 supporters to maintain calm and keep faith in the party.Raj was denied ticket allegedly on the basis of a “fake” complaint sent to party’s national president Amit Shah using the letter pads of four local MLAs. All the four MLAs had later written to Shah to ignore those fake letters, as they “never had any complaint against Krishna Raj”.The MLAs claimed that the denial of a ticket to Raj was “too shocking” for them, and that was why they did not even attend the party meeting held by district president Rakesh Mishra on March 22 to celebrate Arun Sagar’s candidature.A section of supporters also alleged that the party had denied ticket to Raj as she had frequent run-ins with a local state minister who “did not want to see her progress”.It seems evident that the denial of ticket to Krishna Raj has split the local rank and file of the party into two factions. On Wednesday, the lack of support by local BJP MLAs to party’s new candidate from Shahjahanpur Arun Sagar was clearly visible during a rally as less than 2,500 party workers and supporters attended it, even as the event saw participation of Union minister of state for labour Santosh Gangwar as the chief guest and state urban development minister Suresh Khanna.A party leader on the condition of anonymity had told TOI, “The leadership was expecting the participation of at least 10,000 party workers and supporters.
