BAREILLY: Potholed roads and damaged sewers have been giving a harrowing time to residents and commuters in ward 13 Shanti Vihar and ward 58 Chahbai areas. Locals alleged that despite repeated complaints lodged with the BMC authority and on the online IGRS portal, nothing was done. Bareilly mayor Umesh Gautam said, “City residents have lodged complaints about the lack of proper drainage and dilapidated road condition in some areas. I have written about the problem on IGRS (online government website for public grievance) and also lodged complaints with the BMC, but in vain. “Due to a pond in the area, the problem of waterlogging aggravates when it rains, but it has been addressed to some extent,” he said.

This led local residents to the mayor office, seeking redressal of their grievances.Laxmi Singh, a resident of Chahbai area, said, “The sewer line in the area has been damaged and resulting in frequent waterlogging, which has made commuting difficult. We have lodged several complaints, but nothing has been done yet.”Another resident of Shanti Vihar Prajapati colony, Mohit Kumar, said, “The roads in the area are riddled with potholes and have been causing inconvenience to motorists and residents. Even a short spell of rain leads to severe waterlogging here. I have written about the problem on IGRS (online government website for public grievance) and also lodged complaints with the BMC, but in vain. Since the problems remained unaddressed for several months, we met the mayor, who assured us of speedy redressal of our complaints.”Ward 13 Shanti Vihar corporator Ajay Chauhan, however, claimed that the road infrastructure had improved as compared to what it used to be earlier, while the problem of waterlogging has also been addressed. “Due to a pond in the area, the problem of waterlogging aggravates when it rains, but it has been addressed to some extent,” he said. Bareilly mayor Umesh Gautam said, “City residents have lodged complaints about the lack of proper drainage and dilapidated road condition in some areas. The departments concerned have been directed to address their issues. The damaged sewers and roads will be repaired at the earliest.”
