Action expected on mobile towers for outstanding dues

Companies like Reliance Jio and Reliance Info have expressed their readiness to clear their outstanding dues. Outstanding payment of property tax by the mobile tower companies was the key point of discussion in the meeting.According to AMC data, in total there are 61 legal and 498 illegal mobile towers under them. Aurangabad: The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has indicated that mobile towers which have outstanding property tax dues may face action on March 31.The civic body estimates outstanding dues worth Rs 23.21 crore from the companies who have installed these towers.The announcement was made after municipal commissioner Nipun Vinayak held an emergency meeting with the representatives of the mobile companies who have their network towers in the jurisdiction of AMC. Against its target of Rs 450 crore, AMC could only collect Rs 86.66 crore from April 1, 2018 to January 31, 2019.In Friday’s meeting, municipal commissioner lauded the efforts of the ward officers for reaching Rs 100 crore tax collection. It has always received flak for its poor tax collection.

Telecom companies Vodafone, Hitachi Airtel, VO, Idea telecom make up for 50 per cent of the outstanding tax payments.The AMC issued notices to these companies earlier too, but they did not respond, a release issued by the civic body stated.Following Friday’s meeting, Vinayak has indicated that non-payment of dues by the end of financial year on March 31 would call for sealing of the mobile towers.Over the last two months, AMC has seemed to pull up its socks on tax recovery. It has always received flak for its poor tax collection. Against its target of Rs 450 crore, AMC could only collect Rs 86.66 crore from April 1, 2018 to January 31, 2019.In Friday’s meeting, municipal commissioner lauded the efforts of the ward officers for reaching Rs 100 crore tax collection.
