Sena-BJP to focus on national issues during campaign

Aurangabad: Shiv Sena and BJP leaders on Friday sent a message on Friday that the saffron alliance would work and campaign selflessly despite all the differences at the local level.During a news conference, the leaders said the party workers would not use the local issues, but the national issues while reaching out to the voters. The leaders said four-time MP Chandrakant Khaire would file his nomination papers on Saturday in the presence of leaders from the alliance, including Aditya Thackeray.Shiv Sena contact chief Vinod Ghosalkar said, “We are not going to take local issues while going to the voters. We will talk about the national issues because the general elections are all about the country and the central government.”He said the issues including the Indo-Pak tension, apart from the development the current government has delivered and the new schemes announced by the government, would be highlighted before the voters. The leaders admitted that they were on the backfoot due to the failure in resolving the garbage crisis and the water issue. When asked if the saffron parties are diverting from the issue of Hindutva, BJP spokesperson Shirish Boralkar said, “Hindutva is our soul, but the alliance would focus only on development.”When a journalist pointed out that nothing substantial has been done in Adgaon village that has been adopted by Khaire, most leaders skipped the question. BJP district president Kishanchand Tanwani said it was for the MP to elaborate about it and give details about the work he had done in that village.Recently, the villagers had raked up the issue that barely any development work has been done in the village in the past five years. The alliance leaders, including the RPI faction, skipped several questions including the one about Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s promise to not to join hands with the BJP until all farm loans are waived off. Some prominent leaders from both the parties were, however, conspicuous by their absence at the news conference. When a journalist pointed out that former cabinet minister and MP Jaisinghrao Gaikwad too has taken the nomination form, leading to speculations about uneasiness within the party, the leaders dodged the question stating that it was an internal matter and some leaders are in touch with Gaikwad to pacify him.
