3 in Nanded get life term for murder

Aurangabad: A sessions court in Nanded sentenced three men in their 20s to life imprisonment for murdering a 39-year-old man over an old feud in March 2017.Assistant public prosecutor Sanjay Lathkar said that between 3pm and 4pm on March 12, 2017, the deceased, Dnyaneshwar Balaji Hambarde, was having drinks with Sunil Bharti (21) and Akash Barse (then 18) near the old entrance of Swamanand Teerth Marathwada University in Nanded.Around that time, Rama Gaikwad (26) reached the spot and questioned Hambarde as to why he had slapped one of his acquaintances. The conversation soon turned into a verbal volley of words and soon after, Gaikwad drew out a sword and stabbed Hambarde. While stabbing, the sword slipped from Gaikwad’s hand who asked Borse to pick it up and kill Hambarde.Lathkar said that as per the conspiracy that was hatched, Bharti and Barse invited Hambarde to the spot with whom they had some personal feud. Both Bharti and Barse stayed with their mother in the Vishnupuri area and ran a grocery shop-cum-mess. While drinking, the trio picked up a quarrel Hambarde, stabbed him and fled from the spot.Hambarde was rushed to the government hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Nanded rural police registered an offence. Police sub-inspector Parshuram Marade arrested the the suspects, investigated the matter and submitted a charge-sheet before the court.A total of nine witnesses were examined by the prosecution. Following the trial, additional sessions judge Vikramaditya Mande sentenced the three to life imprisonment under section 302 of the IPC on March 16 and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on each of them. If they default the payment, they would have to undergo six months simple imprisonment.The convicts were also sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment under section 323 of the IPC and fined Rs 1,000. If they default, they have to undergo a month’s simple imprisonment. The convicts, who are close relatives, would serve the sentences concurrently, said the public prosecutor adding that the convicts were in prison since their arrest in 2017.
