Lok Sabha elections: SAD (Taksali) to field former MP Rajdev Singh Khalsa from Sangrur

PATIALA: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali) on Monday announced the candidature of former MP Rajdev Singh Khalsa from Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency.Khalsa, had successfully contested the lok sabha elections on Shiromani Akali Dal (Panthic) ticket in 1989. In 2016, he joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and had recently joined the Taksalis.A known leader of the Malwa belt, Khalsa had in July 2015 joined Rashtriya Sikh Sangat, the Sikh wing of the RSS. However, he resigned from the Sangat in April 2016, accusing it of misusing the name of Sikhs.Interestingly, In January 2012, Rajdev Singh Khalsa was also inducted into the Shiromani Akali Dal and immediately made part of the party’s political affairs committee (PAC). He had even offered to contest the legal case of one Vikram Kumar, who had been booked by the police for hurling shoe at CM Parkash Singh Badal. Though he never quit the party formally, he never remained active in SAD.
