BATHINDA: Malout police in Muktsar district has arrested a farmer for cultivating poppy in his fields at Shergarh village near Malout town. Farmer Jaswinder Singh (48),who is also a former sarpanch, had cultivated poppy on a 6 marla plot out of his landholding of 10 acres, said the police. The SHO, Bikramjit Singh, said the police on Saturday got a tip-off about the cultivation of poppy in the fields of Jaswinder. The crop was immediately confiscated.Jaswinder, who had been arrested, said that he had seen a video clip on growing poppy and thought to give it a try. On checking the plants, there height was recorded at 3 feet.
