ALLAHABAD: Seeking to boost avenues for water sports in the city, Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) has added 17 new paddle boats at the Boat Club . These would be in addition to the existing 32-seater AC motor boat, which was brought in the club for tourists coming to the city during the Kumbh Mela The club will also get half-a-dozen motor boats, with varying seating capacity. A coach at the Boat Club, Tribhuvan Nishad , said, "There were 11 paddle boats at the club but only one of them is functional. The lack of boats was turning away tourists."PDA is yet to fix the fare for a ride in these paddle boats. Earlier, the authorities used to charge Rs 120 for a one-hour ride in a paddle boat. However, the amount has not been changed since several years. District magistrate and PDA vice-chairman, Bhanu Chandra Goswami, said, "Despite the vast expanse of Yamuna , we were not able to realise its full potential. With these new paddle boats and motor boats at our disposal, we expect a higher turnout of tourists."
