The Gujarat High Court has sought a reply from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and the National Testing Agency (NTA) over a petition claiming that wrong question and answers were there in the Physics and Mathematics papers of Joint Entrance Examination (Main) held for Gujarati medium students on April 9 in the first shift. A notice to the ministry and the agency was issued by the single judge bench of Justice Biren Vaishnav on Tuesday, with a direction to file their reply in the matter by May 20. The petition filed by Anurag Pathak provides that he appeared for JEE (Main) for Bachelor of Engineering on April 9 in the first shift. He appeared in the examination in Gujarati medium. It is the case of the petitioner that question number seven in the Physics question paper was completely false for all the 5000-6000 students who appeared in the exam in Gujarati medium on that particular day in that particular shift. Similarly, in the Mathematics question paper, all the answers for question number 13 were wrong for all these students. Pathak, through his advocate Hardik Shah, has submitted to the court that there is no scope of reassessment as far as Gujarati medium students are concerned. He claimed that the same questions in the English and Hindi version of the question papers were correct and therefore, it has considerably affected the ranking of applicants, who appeared in Gujarati medium, in the common rank list prepared by NTA. He claimed that a poor ranking would affect their chances of getting a good engineering college as well as the desired branch of engineering. Pathak has appealed to the court to direct the authorities to revise the marks obtained by all students who appeared with him on the same day and same shift in Gujarati medium, which would improve their ranking in the common rank list. Pathak's counsel told DNA that the petitioner in eligible to get at least four marks for each of the wrong question and one additional bonus mark for each of the two questions in lieu of the negative marking for attempting the question.
