AHMEDABAD: The city police are still clueless about the “accidental death” of a TV journalist, Chirag Patel , 26, whose charred body was found in Nikol last Saturday.Additional commissioner of police of sector-2 M H Bharada told reporters that six IPS officers, including the sleuths of the crime branch and the cyber cell, and the deputy commissioner of police of zone-5 — in whose jurisdiction the body was found — have been roped in for the investigation.Bharada said that the postmortem revealed no external injuries on Patel’s body. “We have sent the viscera sample to the forensic science laboratory,” Bharada said. “We have not yet ascertained whether it was suicide or murder. We have formed two teams to probe both angles.”Akshayraj, the deputy commissioner of police of zone-5, urged citizens to share any information with police. “Patel died on Friday evening; it is a surmise based on the fact that the rice he had eaten on Friday afternoon was found undigested in his intestines,” Akshayraj said. “That means he had died a couple of hours after he ate food at his home on Friday afternoon.”Patel had gone incommunicado since Friday evening. On Saturday evening, his body was recovered. His brother, Jaimin Patel, filed a complaint with Nikol police in which he stated that Patel may have been killed with an inflammable liquid.“We have acquired CCTV footage in which Patel is seen and have also recorded the statement of the priest of a Hanuman temple where Patel was seen last,” Akshayraj said. “According to call details, Patel did not ring anyone on that day and had received call only from his brother at around 4.15pm.”Many people from Nikol and nearby areas have come down heavily on police for their snail-paced investigation. These people have started the “Justice For Chirag” campaign on social media. They also held protests in various parts of the city and in Gandhinagar . Police eventually swung into action.
