35 CCTV cameras to monitor dubious activities on district border

Police are preparing a list of people who have been arrested for supplying illegal liquor in the area in the past few years. AGRA: Ahead of the Lok Sabha election, the district administration has started work to install 35 CCTV cameras on road barriers at the district borders by the next week to make sure illegal liquor, weapons or unaccounted cash does not enter or leave Agra.Additional district magistrate (ADM) (city) KP Singh said, “The district borders will remain in 24-hour surveillance of CCTV cameras. The district administration has identified 35 spots where barriers and CCTV cameras will be installed.The administration and police have identified 30 villages near borders where there is a possibility of illegal liquor supply. All suspicious vehicles crossing the border will be checked by police teams deployed at barriers. Area under 12 police stations of Agra district touches boundaries of Bhind and Morena districts of Madhya Pradesh as well as Dholpur and Bharatpur districts of Rajasthan.

The move is aimed to ensure strict implementation of the model code of conduct (MCC) and a fair conduct of elections in the district on April 18.”Being a bordering district of Uttar Pradesh , Agra shares its boundaries with Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan . Area under 12 police stations of Agra district touches boundaries of Bhind and Morena districts of Madhya Pradesh as well as Dholpur and Bharatpur districts of Rajasthan. The district administration has identified 35 spots where barriers and CCTV cameras will be installed.The administration and police have identified 30 villages near borders where there is a possibility of illegal liquor supply. The liquor can stored and distributed as sops to lure voters days before the polling. Activities in these villages are being closely monitored. Police are preparing a list of people who have been arrested for supplying illegal liquor in the area in the past few years. Besides, three dozen local men with criminal backgrounds have been shortlisted to prevent disturbance during polling.ADM city said, “The bordering villages are being monitored. All suspicious vehicles crossing the border will be checked by police teams deployed at barriers. Potential troublemakers who can affect the elections have been identified and officers have been asked to keep a watch on them.”In a few bordering villages of Pinahat block, where the Chambal river flows, police teams are patrolling on boats as putting barriers is not possible here.
