Odisha Lok Sabha Election Result 2024 LIVE News: The state of Odisha held both Lok Sabha and state assembly elections, the results of which will be declared today, June 4, as counting began at 8 AM. The Election Commission of India (ECI) had announced the voting for the 147-member Odisha assembly to be conducted in four phases simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections. Voters cast their ballots on May 13, 20, 25, and June 1 in the Odisha Assembly election. The term of the assembly, elected in 2019, expired on June 2, 2024. The BJD, led by Naveen Patnaik, contested all 147 seats, while the BJP, led by Manmohan Samal, also contested all 147 seats. The Congress, led by Sarat Pattanayak, contested 145 seats. In the 2019 Odisha legislative assembly elections, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) secured a remarkable victory with 113 seats, securing a fifth consecutive term under Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 23 seats, while the Congress obtained 9. The remaining seats were distributed between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and an independent candidate. Of the 21 Odisha Lok Sabha constituencies, five are reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates and three for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJD mopped up the lions share of the electoral spoils, with the BJP and the Congress bringing up the rear. The BJD won 12 seats, the BJP finished a close second at 8, and the Congress bagged just a lone seat. The BJD, known as a "friendly party" to the ruling BJP, has previously supported the Union government in passing crucial bills.
