BJP misusing state machinery, says Nagarik Samaj

Guwahati: The Axom Nagarik Samaj accused the BJP-led government in the country of undermining the constitutional values and destroying the democratic institutions of the country in a press meet held here on Thursday. The civil society alleged that the current regime is misusing the state machinery to remain in power.Addressing the media, chief patron of the Samaj, Hiren Gohain, said the divisive policy of the BJP-led government at the Centre has fragmented the people of the country. Gohain said, The government has divided the common people of the country in the name of religion, ethnicity, language etc. At present, the country is grappling with violence among different ethnic groups and religions. It has been possible because the people in power only believe in hatred. A glaring example is the present situation in Manipur, even after four months of ongoing turmoil in the state, the Prime Minister of this country is behaving like nothing has happened in the state.General secretary of the Samaj, Paresh Malakar, said the country has seen the worst during the current regime. The BJP must be stopped from coming to power in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. It is high time for us to unite all sections of society to safeguard the democratic values of the country.After the convention on September 24, this movement will be taken to all the districts of the state to educate people at the grassroots, he added.Meanwhile, spokesperson for BJP state committee Lakhya Konwar termed the Samajs allegations baseless. He said, At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lifted Indias image through G20 presidency, these kinds of allegations are baseless.
